Kater Murch has been promoted to full professor effective July 1, 2021.
Murch’s research focuses on the interface of Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) and condensed matter physics. Using nano-fabrication techniques to construct superconducting quantum circuits allows his group to probe fundamental questions in quantum mechanics. Superconducting qubits are a promising system for the realization of quantum schemes for computation, simulation, and data encryption.
Mark Alford, chair of the Department of Physics, said, "Professor Murch is one of our rising stars. In just 7 years at Wash U he has made outstanding contributions in research, as the standard-bearer for our new thrust in quantum information, in innovative teaching, and in energetic service to the department and the university."
